I have used bands that the older generation will recognise, this way my magazine will stand apart from the rest when my taret audience sees it because it will include bands that they are interested in as opossed to the cliche punk, rap and RnB magazines, I have catered to my target audience by being unique and having very few if any competitors in the same genre. This will give me an edge on my competitors because no other magazine caters to the age group or audience I have.

I used puns to interest the readers on first sight, to do this I simply chose the artist/bands popular songs, substituted a few words and made a story about it, for example I chose to write "Around The World" for daft punks world tour as this is one of their most popular songs, this technique works well as an older generation understand these puns and may not if it were about a newer trendier popstar, henceforth making them feel involved and part of a social group and boosting their confidence.
I used images which the reader can relate to such as familiar faces of popstars and also images that can create a personal link with the reader by making it seem as they are staring out at the reader, most magazines do this because it has proven an effective way of creating a personal link with the reader, this was my intention because it would allow the reader to relate to my magazine.
I adressed the reader using information in the aricles which the target audience may be interested in, therefore I wrote about a young teen band, as some may have children roughly that age and therefore may have an interest and can relate to the article, I have also included a 50% coupon in the article which would attract the reader because it promises a gift and would therefore save them money on an object they may later purchase, this makes better value for money.
