I feel I have learnt a lot since my preliminary task
I have learnt how to effectively produce an authentic looking magazine, this is through research of other, popular magazines taking ideas from each one, analysing and annotating them until I fully understood the conventions of a music magazine, such as a unique masthead, eye catching images, ect. I have learnt that it cannot just be created by copying the image of another magazine.
To do this I had to learn how to properly utilise all of the aspects of adobe photoshop, I did this by using it everyday whilst my project was ongoing, I soon gained a grasp of how to effectively use photoshop to get the best out of my images. This was by using tools such as the gradient tool (to create a patterned background), the magic wand (to cut images closer) and organising layers to change the arrangement of images and text
Since the Preliminary task I have also learnt to take clearer and better pictures using different modes and settings for different lightings and zooms for example in the dark, a high aparture and low shutter speed should be used to get the clearest image.
I have learnt the importance of saving and backing up my work on multiple devices such as a USB, a desktop computer and an apple mac, so if for any reason work is lost I can back it up, this I learnt because several times I had come very close to losing all of my work due to misplacing my USB or somebody deleting work on the apple macs
I have leaarnt the importance of blogging my work and effectively gathering research information, this is very useful for keeping up to date and orgaiseing my time properly.
I managed to organise my time effectively by creating a schedule of when to do what work this came in very handy as I did not fall behind target.
And finnally this Project has taught me about different media institutions such as Brauer Media, Emap and IPC Media and what roles they play when it comes to publishing and distributing music magazines through everything from bookshops to magazine kiosks.
When I have showed members of my target audience, all have responded that it is far better than my preliminary task and would purchase it if they saw it in a shop.
